Motivation Mondays

Motivation is our get-up-and-go.  It is what gets us started in our daily tasks.  It is what keeps us going, even when experiencing difficulties.  Motivation is also what moves a person to set and accomplish goals.  Our behaviors can be inspired by people and events happening around us AND by our own ideas and feelings.

You might go to a high school football game and be inspired to be a quarterback or to play an instrument and be part of the marching band.  Or, you may see someone sitting alone at recess and want to make sure that person is okay and go to him/her and invite them to play.  Self motivation may lead you to work hard to improve your skill as a quarterback so you can be the starter or as a trumpet player to be the soloist, or to find more ways to help people and choose a career as a community helper.
We find our motivation from many different people and experiences and from our hopes and dreams.  If there is one thing I can inspire you to do, I hope it is for your motivations and actions to be led with kindness. -Mrs. Fleming
Monday, June 1st:  You Can Make a Difference!
We each have the power to speak with kindness, listen to understand how a person might be feeling, be active in helping others, use our brain to discover facts and learn about the truth, and to use our heart to feel and spread love to those around us.  The following quotes speak of the choices we can make as we interact with others at home, at school, on the playground, at a sporting event, at work, on the street, everywhere...
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
" I am only one, but I am one.  I cannot do everything, but I can do something.  And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do."     - Edward Everett Hale
"If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change.  As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change toward him.  We need not wait to see what others do."   - Mahatma Ghandi
Each of us can make a positive difference in our community and in our world.  We have to make the choice to do so.

Monday, May 18th:   Virtual Career Day!
A Career Day was planned for May of this school year, and I was looking forward to bringing people from the community into the school to talk about their careers.  We are all doing our best to stay safe and healthy but that means no Career Day.  Therefore, I was incredibly excited when I found, and was given permission to share, a Virtual Career Day that another counselor created!

Who are your favorite people?
What are your favorite games?
Where are your favorite places to go?
Where do you like spending your time - inside or outside?
What do you like to read?
What is your best subject at school?
What are your ideas about what you want to be after you graduate?
What can we do to take care of other people and the Earth?
What is something that makes you happy?
Print to complete!
